Inveraray is a town in Argyll and Bute at the head of Loch Fyne. It was founded in the 18th century by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, head of the Clan Campbell. Inveraray Castle, only a short walk north of the New Town, is still the family residence of the Dukes of Argyll.

Also renowned for great food and hospitality, amazing scenery, visitor attractions, festivals and great accommodation, Inveraray is the perfect place for everyone.     One of the most breathtakingly beautiful castles in Scotland, Inveraray castle was the first of its kind to be built in the West of Scotland. Unique in its architecture, the castle has a rich history. Enjoy exploring the rooms open to the public with tour guides on hand to answer any of your questions. Gardens have recently been opened for walks and there is a homely tea room and gift shop. It was the chosen location for the filming of the 2012 Downton Abbey Christmas episode.

    Visit the Inveraray Jail and courthouse, now an award-winning museum that graphically depicts the grim prison conditions from medieval times up until the 19th century. A category A listed building dating back to 1820, the Georgian courthouse and prison closed in 1889. The jail is regarded as one of the most haunted places in Scotland.

    Auchindrain was the last inhabited Highland farming township. From the medieval age until the 1960s people both lived and worked there. The buildings and their contents have been preserved as they were back in time. There is also a modern Visitor Centre, shop and tea room.

  • Best of the West Festival
    8 - 10 September 2017

    A fabulous end of season festival showcasing the food, drink and music of Argyll and further afield. Held in the superb grounds of Inveraray Castle it is an annual event which plays host to top bands and musicians. Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Skipinnish were previous headliners at the festival. A food and drink tent with Argyll’s finest produce including Loch Fyne Oysters and a whisky tent is also on site. Family friendly event with many kids activities.

    The Highland games has many events including traditional Piping and Highland Dancing from participants from all over the UK. A great day out. Inveraray Castle 10am to 5pm.
